Art Education Summit
The UCAE invited chairs and faculty from local higher education institutions offering art and art education degrees to attend a summit to discuss the problems and issues related to art education. Representatives from Columbia University, City College, Adelphi University, Brooklyn College, Hofstra University, Kean University and the School of Visual Arts attended this productive meeting.
The consensus of the group was to develop a strong collective voice to deal with policy makers, local schools and accreditation concerns.
Four committees were formed:
One focused on organizing a meeting with New York State Education Department representatives.
A second to set up a meeting where chairs and faculty from colleges and universities can discuss and share curricula.
A third to concentrate on concerns about teacher certification and accreditation.
And lastly, a committee to focus on Professional Development: what opportunities we can offer and how to go about it.
